Arjuna says โit would be far better if the Kauravas with their weapons slay me in the battle even as I am unarmed and unresisting.โย Arjunaโs perspective, since the expiation of death will wash away all sins, being not vengeful is the atonement for his resolve not to slay them. It may be put forth that although Arjuna disregarding kshatriya ethics might refrain from battle out of deluded compassion for friends and relatives, in so far as the enemy is concerned they will not refrain themselves from battle; and are determined to fight for supremacy of the realm. The inner disposition/ the sensitivity of Arjuna is that Bhishma and the others fighting on the Kaurava side will not be able to get away from the consequence of that wrongdoing.
Arjuna whose mind was miserable, overwhelmed by sorrow plummeted down on the chariot in full view of all the troops. The suffering of Arjuna is an adaptation of a continually recurring dilemma of a man on the brink of higher life, who feels disillusioned with the fascination of the world and yet fantasy seizes him and he values them. It has been apparent from the commencement of conception that the propensity to embark upon the path of self-realisation manifests only in those living beings who are virtuous and have no penchant to cause injury to any living entity by thought, word or action. It has also been perceived that success derived from embarking upon this initiative never arises in those living entities who are bereft of these qualities. Sanjaya frankly tells Dhritaraashtra that โArjuna, is the most noble minded, compassionate, the eternal well-wisher and the virtuous; although along with his four brothers, frequently burdened with problems prompted by you and your son, including horrid acts of treachery against them with intent to kill. It is surely known to you that by Arjuna the destruction of your clan is certain due to the fact that he has the support of the Parama Purusa, the Supreme Personality, Lord Krishna by his side. Still Arjuna looks upon you all with feelings of friendship and overcome by empathy and by the fear of performing actions which are opposed to righteousness, that tiger among men became introvert and said to Lord Krishna that under no circumstance he would fight. After saying so he became very dejected in mind and afflicted with grief at the thought of separation from relatives and dropping his celestial bow Gandiva he just sat down on the chariot.
